Genesis

In the Genesis cycle, Kal’chev seems to call us to follow the First Book of Moses – the chapter on the Creation of the world – and the work of God in the first day or two. We follow that fantastic story of the sudden burst of dense, opaque matter and radiation, the unstoppable power of the cosmic miracle of matter in creating protogalaxies and galaxies, at an unimaginable temperature of tens of millions of degrees, one second after the big bang. His paintings brilliantly seem to take us back almost 14 billion years, to the very essence of matter, to the creation of order in chaos – or chaos in order! Even in the best years of the Macedonian informal art and the painting of matter we could not see such strong, evocative, densely expressive, consistently materialized works. The real matter – the positive one, but also the one with a “negative” sign, the so-called dark matter – severely dominates, spreads through the works of Kal’chev. As a primordial nucleosynthesis just minutes after the big burst, it systematically conquers space, self-builds or self-decomposes, heats to melting, and then thickens into a magmatic substance. And through its structures Kal’chev “allows” the appearance of initial signals, perhaps archetypes or initial symbols – indeterminate and still unrecognizable prototypes of the First Day or lines, triangle and cross, the vault of the Second Day – which originally draw the map of some future words.
